Heat Pads...

lostkauze Mar 05, 2004 04:27 PM

Since I think that heat tape is way beyond me (I don't do tools... or electric wiring etc), heat pads work well. I'm starting to expand my leo collection, and need to find a place that sells heatpads and a low cost. I know LLLReptile has some low prices, but after 3 or 4 pads, it starts adding up. Is there anyplace outthere where I can get a 10-20 gallon heatpad for less then $16, and a 30-40 gallon for less then $30?

Thanks very much!

Michael

They are very good, but you have to take temps everyday(duh ) Just don't get the massage ones..well I guess you could...but that function wouldnt be turned on...so just a waste of money to get those kind.....as I said in the subject, I got mine for $12 each from Kmart...They have them at Walmart, Walgreens, and probably any other pharmacy/drugstore...

I know many people use human heat pads on a regular basis, but they are not designed to be on 24/7. I had one with my first tank - a sunbeam one from walmart - and it decided to get a heat spot and flare in a matter of days. It had a very dark spot, and the plastic had begun melting. I am darn lucky it did not start a fire.

I am not telling anyone they are wrong - I am just saying that in my opinion, they are not meant to heat all the time, and have a risk of fire. Why not get a cobra heat pad from an online place for around the same cost. Herpsupplies.com sold me three 10-20 G size at 16 each. 4-6 dollars more a mat than human heat pads is a cheap price to pay for a piece of mind. Just my .02 Good luck.
