Savanah's first Pinky experience

Anubis Jun 10, 2003 07:14 PM

In a nut shell I tried to give my sav a pinky and he just ignored it and let it sit their while he acted like it wasn't even their. But the proceeded to enhale 15 crickets. Does anyone know any tricks for getting them to take a pinky or is it one of those things that he will just learn as he gets bigger

He'll eat the pinky when he's ready. Then you'll be posting, "Why won't he eat crickets?"

Isn't that the truth?! My sav didn't want anything to do with mice but would take ground turkey if I needed filler when the crix ran dry. Now, at about a year and a half, 3.5pounds and 2.5 feet long she eats "Anything she wants!" She eats any rodents, and still loves to chase down crix or roaches or any bugs that enter her domain. Though I do worry about her slamming her nose diving at roaches.

Cut it in half. Mine wouldn't touch his first pinky. I cut it in half and presented him with it, he caught a whiff of it, and grabbed it instantly. I cut them in half the next few times I fed him pinkies, and he consumed them ravenously. After that, he figured it out.

I just picked up a baby sav a couple weeks ago, and just got em started on pinks. I had to sort of pester him with a live pink, then sit it down and let the pink move around on its own. Eventually he figured out that it was food, after much sniffing. The cutting in half trick works well too, as someone else said.
