Feeding roaches to horned frogs........and questions

tribbielvr Mar 05, 2004 08:37 PM

I just got my albino horned frog today, I have been waiting forever to get one, it was my Valentine's day present, just a little late.

Anyway.....I read on here that some people feed hissers to them. I can't imagine any adult frog that could eat a hisser! Do they REALLY? ROFL!!

We raise hissers and lobster roaches so, since my guy is small, about two inches, I will start out feeding lobs, but tell me, can they REALLY eat hissers eventually?

Another question.....I have "Rupert" in one of our reptile rooms. The temp in here stays around 80-85 during the day. This does not provide for an actual basking area but the temps do stay lower in the moist substrate, also ambiant temps are about 75 or so at night, do I still need additional heat for him or do you think he'll be ok with that?

One more question, for now....<G>
Do you recommend feeding with tongs or just placing the food in the enclosure?

Thanks
Nina

I like to feed with tongs because it lessens the chances of the frog swallowing substrate. I feed nightcrawlers off of tongs, holding the tong still and letting the worm wriggle in front of the frog. he then proceeds to gobble up said worm, with no big mouthful of substrate. It's a good thing!
