Hello,

I have one collared lizard, and it is the first herp I've ever kept. He hatched in August 2003. I hibernated him through the winter and took him out this past Monday. Temperatures where I live are beginning to rise. I read that you aren't supposed to feed them for the first two days, but after that they should be ready to eat, if temps. are high enough. He is very sluggish though. He comes out in the morning and sits in one spot all day long with eyes closed. I admit I don't know what the exact temperature is in the tank, but I thought perhaps it wasn't warm enough. I had one 75-watt light bulb about 7 inches from the highest point in the tank. I tried adding another lamp (75-watt) thinking it might not be enough heat, but he remains very sluggish. I'm afraid that I'm failing to do something or doing something I shouldn't be doing. I would appreciate any help anyone can give.

Thanks.

....that you take the temps on the basking site as well as the warm/cool gradient in his enclosure, and not rely on the wattages of what bulbs you furnish. That's really the only way to verify his temps are in the preferred range. Make sure he has water available, I'd offer him a bit from a CLEAN eyedropper just to make certain.
