I have a couple of male rats that I keep around for pets. I keep evry one else out of the breeding room just because baby rats are cute and every one wants to hold them. If a rat realy never gets held, than they dont become friendly.

That's how I got into herps. I breed rodents and needed something to do with the leftovers. Now, of course, my rodent colony rarely comes close to keeping up with my snakes. As of now, every single one of my rodents have been on a breeding strike for over three months. I'm about ready to slaughter the lot and start over.

Well, I started breeding rats as pets, then as feeders and now as both. Does that count. I do have a hard time if the litter is adorable...like dumbos. But I don't keep more than a certain number as pets (my kids generally have a couple each) or we would be overrun. So I just pick a day when I am already in a mood so I can just cull them and not keep the cute ones. And the kids know not to fall in love with anyone without permission.
