Retic Owners Need your advice and input

Rottenweiler9 Jun 10, 2003 07:31 PM

OK, I am going to make the jump soon to a retic (pending a few things, girl friend, hahahahaha). I have talked to lots of peeps as well as read your all things on this forum. As I stated awhile ago I really wanted a retic. People I have been talking to suggest getting a Tiger or a Super Tiger because of the disposition, they get what 15 16 feet or bigger (Don't know how much they weigh), I currently own a boa not even a year and a burm not even a year and a ball not even a year (new one to this) but all females and I am looking for a male, but am fasinated by retics, colors, size the whole thing. What about these dwarfs, I look on Bob's web site and see how big his our and that is not really big, so I can handle that as I am sure with a super or a tiger. But I would like to hear what you have to say as far as disposition and size, and would a 6ft vision cage be ok or is this to small and I would need to upgrade to a custom eventually,
again all your advise and suggestions is greatly appreciated.

First off if your looking for more great info on retics check out the bob clark forums. All these questions have been asked many times. As far as disposition goes... Everyone has their opinion but I think its all how they are raised. A good C.B. snake from Bob or other reputable breeder will make a great pet provided you spend the time with it. Handle it too much and it can stress out. Handle it not enough and it can go nippy on you. I have 1.1 tigers 0.1 super tiger 1.0 albino 0.1 het albino 0.1 poss. het 1.0 normal. Although they don't all have the same disposion I haven't ever noticed a difference between morphs. Hope this helps. Oh yea a 6ft vision will work till around 15'. After that you can build a custom cage for it.

Buying a Tiger does not mean you will have a docile retic. I don't know exactly why everyone insists Tigers and Supertigers are so much more docile than other retics, but if you spend enough time around enough retics you might see thats not the case. It really comes down to individual snakes. If you raise most retics and they learn to trust people, the make wonderful pets. Some individuals insist on being more aggressive than others, too. That goes for yellowhead, silver, albino, pink, neon, and whatever else you can come up with. Its true with burms as well.I have seen plenty of aggressive burms in my time, and have been bitten by more baby burms than baby retics by far come to think of it.

I think you would be happiest deciding what kind of retic you really want, then find someone who breeds that kind and get and individual you feel comfortable with.
