I am looking for a high quality thermostat...more

CaseyHulse Mar 06, 2004 07:31 AM

I am looking for a manufacturer of the digital thermostats used on high end incubators. The kind with the temp alarm, panel mount (not helix). I have seen plenty of them, but cannot track them down on the web. Thanx Casey

Well, there is www.omega.com. These controllers are high-end and are great. Go to the site, then select "Temperature", then "Temperature and Process Control Meters".

I don't know if this is what you were looking for.

Selco is another manufacturer or temp controls. Do a search for them.

Finally, there is a medical supply outlet called Cole-Parmer. They have a small panel mount digital ON/OFF controller.

Hey Casey,
I'm personally a big fan of the GCS Reptiles stuff. They started out with the 4-zone thermostat which I LOVE but they also have a single-zone unit which would be more what you're looking for I'm guessing.
They're units are proportional, they have built-in night drop (not applicable for incubation probably) plus they have a built-in alarm that can be setup to alarm out at different temps and time. I have mine set to alarm out if the temp is 5 degrees too cold or 5 degrees too warm for a 10 minute period. The squeal it puts out is audible several hundred feet away (I can hear mine going off upstairs in the bedroom from the snake room downstairs and on the opposite side of the house). It also has a dialer interface which allows you to hook up a phone dialer ($30 at Radio Shack) that can page you if the same criteria are met.
The units themselves are cheaper than Helix units and I've found nothing that it can't do that the Helix does (plus with the built-in night drop and the alarm, it's actually a better deal). I think they're single units are selling for $130 (you can check out www.kingnsake.com/gcsreptiles.com) for more information. The 4-zone unit is only $269 and it's like having 4 Helix DBS-1000 systems with nightdrop (an equivalent of $560 comparatively) plus it only takes one power cord verus four, it has the night drop built-in rather than having an external module, plus it does have the alarm included.
Best of luck,
Jason @ Jason's Jungle
