Advise on bedding

hydeto Mar 06, 2004 08:37 AM

Hi Guy,

I recently and finally for my WDs....Was damn happy and excited about it. It's not easy to get reptile in the place I staying.

Anyway I need some advise on the substrate for their bedding.
I am thinking about putting soil which I read from many posts and website this is recommended.

But there is 1 problem here, I have problem getting sterile soil and the soil they selling here is mostly for potting and plants.
Izzit possible to use those?
And also if using soil, how long will it require to change them?
Izzit very troublesome to clean up using soil?

I am thinking about putting carpet grass as bedding as a alternative. Which one is a better choice? Or any other recommandation?

Thanks.

For good safe soil you could try www.fantasticfrogs.com I bought soil from them for my frogs terrerium. The problem with a soil substrate and dragons is they love to dig. In my tank that meant dirt was always getting caught in the door track, and they always through it into there pond. I also used coconut bark for awhile, which is not as messy but still has issues. The carpeting is what I finally settled on and it works great. You just need to have a large container of dirt available if you have a gravid female, so she can lay her eggs.

For a while, I used playground sand mixed with peet moss. The peet moss always fould its way into Jonnys pond floating around making a mess. Now my mixture is pretty much all sand now. It sinks and I use a shop vac to remove the dirty water and sand. Thats just me though.
