well, i have been bit with teh 'acky' bug. i plan on purchasing my 1st acky(s) in april during the NY herp show. now, i have a few questions few i get them. they will be in a 40g breeder to being with. i plan on using a verminculite/potting soil mix as a substrate, about 8-12" deep. i will take what i can get so to speak. i am not very particular on whether i want red or yellows, basically. i want to get the acky as young as possible. depending on the price (which i have no clue how much i should expect to pay) i will get 1~3. please, leave any comments or words of wisdom here. i will appreciate it greatly. feel free to talk to me on aim YFZ450Racer 63.

"i will take what i can get" has not been one of them, lol.

seriously, monitors are work. i may have used (probably am still) some rediculously horribly substrates (carpet, peat moss, etc)but i am continously working at it.

i would suggest calling up your local nursery and asking about sandy loam but at the same time inquire about clay levels in it, you don't want much of it.

its all good though, one of the best monitor breeders in the world (consistent might be better)uses gravel and sunken hides with bed-a-beast for nesting.

You should be expecting the price range from 200 to 350 for the ackies usually the yellow ackies are a little cheaper but I prefer the quality animals than the price

andrew-i htink you misunderstood what i meant. i was referring to the species of ackys-red or yellow. i will not purchase an obviously ailing monitor, under no circumstances.

You can find yellows for $125 shipped reds for $200-250 shipped just a heads up....they all come from the same founding stock
