If i dont have a gram scale is there a way to see if she's heavy enough

UroJade Mar 06, 2004 02:17 PM

to breed? im not going to do anything till im sure. and im trying to get a scale. my dad keeps saying he can get me one where he works but keeps coming back without one. i geuss i have to remind him.
She's about half a pound on the bathroom scale but i dont think that its very accurate.
hmm hopefully if i remind him my dad will get a scale.
i just have to set up houseing for babies and i think i'll be ready.
Of course she means more to me than having babys so she's the deciding factor
she's about 18 inches and im unsure of her age. i have to get back in contact with the women i bought her from to make sure but i think she's 3.

if i do breed them i want to try to raise the babies cricket free with repcal pellets. is it hard to get them started on the pellets? any tips that will make it easier?
my cricket supplier is 2-3 hours away so if they wont eat the pellets i can get crickets fast for them.

For the scale thing,When I brought my BD to the vet they weighed her, so maybe just get a check up done on her and they will tell you her weight. But then again you could probably just buy a scale online...

A wellness check by the Vet might be a good idea before Breeding
Reduces the chance for complications later I would think.

I don't know if your vet will let you swing by and use their scale, but that's what I do. I have a good relationship with my vet hospital and they let me stop by and weight my lizards free of charge when they aren't busy.

You don't need to know her exact weight....if she's 18 inches and well filled out....good fat pads under her front legs, filled out fat pads on her head, filled out tail base, she should be fine given her age.....but I would get a scale anyway....it's what you need to monitor hatchlings growth as well.

As far as the cricket free....check with Lisa at beginnersbasics.com, she raises them that way with good success.....I use pellets, but mine also get crickets or silkworms daily as well so I can't help you there.
