Breeding Mealworms

lostkauze Mar 06, 2004 07:17 PM

I know people always post stuff about mealworms, I just never read them. Well, I should have because it pertains to me.

I have a buncha large mealworms and larve and beetles. Ok great. Now what? I seperate the larve from the worms and the beetles from the larve. There are in small sandwich saver containers.

With the beetles, obviously they are supposed to breed and lay eggs. What do eggs look like?

Also, with gutloading, how ofter should I change the bran?

I thought I'd save alotta money by raising my own mealies, but it turns out I don't know what I'm doing. Any help or direction would be awesome!!! Thanks!

Michael

Well, i'm young but have succesfully bred giant mealworms, well the key is to have a nice group, 2-3 inches of substrate, and some "DRIFTWOOD" very important they lay there eggs on it, ok just feed them some dry potatoes, and carrots, do not get them wait they will mold so fast. one you have them in there for about 2-3 weeks, you should see little tiny tiny barely able to be picked up mealworms, and the eggs are microscopic they are so small, the worms you can barely see for about a week, but after that you can pluck them out, so good luck. Thank you.
