Would depend on the type of sand in the sandbag I would say....never tried it....used to use washed screened playand from home depot for 3 bucks a 50 lb bag.....

Lots of cleaning with sand though....finding and scooping poo (as they always seemed to bury it and I had to hunt for it) and food reminents daily....and I found I needed to change it all out monthly or it started to get a bit smelly which told be bacteria was growing......it was very labor intensive for the many tanks I have and had so now I use paper products. If will work fine if you are meticulous and don't mind the work involved.

The playsand has been washed wich is the plus side of that. Sand from a sandbag. Where did it come from? what was sandbag used for? as you can see there are alot of questions about it. I have 4 enclousures 3 with 1 inch playsand and one with shelf paper. They are cleaned completly once a day and changed out once a month. Different type of work to clean but about the same amount of time on each. Different ages and sizes in each tank.
