Breeding for iridescent ball pythons?

BoulderBalls Mar 06, 2004 10:24 PM

I have noticed that some ball pythons seem to have more of a iridescent look to them, almost like a rainbow boa... and I was wondering if anyone has ever tryed breeding for iridescent ball pythons?

I assume it is not a simple on / off switch in terms of genetics (i.e. recessive, dominant, etc.) However, is it possible that it is more a cumulative effect? Has anyone ever line breed or selectively breed for this trait?

Thanks

Sounds like a fun project.

I've been trying to get this fairly iridescent female to breed for a couple years without luck (I'm blaming the male, that's my story and I'm sticking to it). She is out on a breeding loan now to a hopefully rather studly male so we'll see.
