By random chance, I happened across a small batch of nearly-ovulating collared females at a local pet store, so I jumped at the chance to get a companion for my pal Puck. Named her Alexandra. She's not as colorful as he is, but has some sharply-defined whites and some touches of yellow around the head and legs, so hopefully they'll make some nice-looking babies. (I still hope to get him a nice yellowheaded lady at some point -- variety is good!)
When I introduced Alexandra to the cage, she wandered around checking the place out pretty calmly, but Puck absolutely freaked out, dashing madly from side to side trying to force his way through the glass in what looked like a panic. I've never seen him like that before. He calmed down a little bit after a while, but still didn't want to be anywhere near her, even though she was sitting next to his favorite basking spot.
I wonder if they'll get along better tomorrow. They both ended up crawling into the same hide spot (she a few hours later than he) and I haven't heard sounds of fighting, so with any luck a night together will bring him to his senses.
Is that a common reaction to the introduction of a second lizard into a cage?
Here's Alexandra having a look around.
