hi,ok the book is called agamid lizards by ulrich manthey and norbert schuster,it should be noted ive never kept any red-headed agamas so therfore cant offer any of my own experiences with these lizards. The following is an exact copy of what is written in the book:
agama agama (linnaeus 1758)
House agama or red-headed agama
DESCRIPTION:HBL male 107-137,female 84-120;TL male 210-263,female 164-198;hatchlings 55-60mm TL.only males possess a low nape crest. The gray brown back is often covered with a pattern of dark patches, with sufficient warmth, the head, throat and shoulders of dominant males turn orange red,the body and extremities dark blue.the cross-banded tail exhibits pale and dark blue colours.Particularly with pregnant females, orange lateral spots and turquiose dots stand out on the head.
HABITAT AND BEHAVIOUR:
agama agama lionotus lives on trees and on the ground, but as a follower of civilisation it also can be found on houses, walls, and in dumps. An alpha male can command a "harem" of up to25 females and half grown animals. Moreover,a dominant female often does not leave thedominant males side to fend off other female courtiers.
REPRODUCTION:
After the start of the rainy season, females lay 3 to 8 eggs in self excavated holes or in deep, damp tree cracks. The youngsters hatch 2 to 3 months later.
NOTES:Based on our experience, only 1 pair of adults may be kept with youngsters.
RANGE:
agama agama agama-central africa
agama agama africana-liberia
agama agama boensis-guinea-bissau
agama agama dodamae-tanzania
agama agama elgonis-uganda,kenya
