HELP.......FAST.....INJURED DRAGON

chopper110 Mar 07, 2004 09:45 AM

Hello,
I was handleing my 2 yr old male Bearded Dragon this morning, when I think he dislocated his right leg at the shoulder. I was in the process of cleaning his enclouser, and was moving him to a temp holding tank. My grip on him was firm enough to stop him from jumping out of my hand, but it deffinately was not "too" tight. As dragons can do, he made a quick move as if to jump, and this is when I heard a distictive "pop". I immediately felt the strength in his right leg give way. I have been observing him ever since it happened at 10:00 am this morning, and he is deffinately having problems supporting his weight on his right leg. He is eating and drinking as normal, but something is deffinately wrong with his leg.
Has anyone ever had this happen? Does anyone know if a vet can reset a dragons leg. Please....any info would be deeply appreciated. This is a really cool dragon, and he is kind of a best friend....Please help.

Thank you,
Robert E. Langley Sr

Your vet is the one you should be talking to right now. If it is dislocated and currently out there will be an inflammatory response at the joint; the longer you wait the more of a response and the harder it is to reset the joint. CALL A VET.

You should get the B. dragon to a vet--as soon as you can; in the meantime you should try to stabilize/immobilize the arm by splinting with something like a popsicle stick & using first-aid tape. Gently tape the arm so that the stick is supporting the break site. If the break site can not be determined, then gently tape the arm in a normal-looking position to the dragon's body with one or two loops of tape around the body.
**Get the dragon to a vet as soon as you can for X-rays & proper splinting of the fracture.
Goodluck.

Hello,
I guess I should have said so in my first post, but I plan on calling the vet first thing tomorrow. The only reptile vet in my area will not be open until then. I was just trying to obtain as much info as possible before hand.

Thank you,
Robert
