Veggies vs. bugs..

iceberg Mar 07, 2004 10:54 AM

I was told by a breeder that is was ok to feed vegetables/greens all the time and crickets only once a week. My dragon is about 14" and 9 months old. Would this be healthy?
Also, I noice he recently is missing two nails on his back foot. Do they grow back? He must have pulled them out on his log or something because I am always gentle with him, and he had his nails when I bought them.

Thanks,
Mathew

That is fine AS LONG AS you are adding some protien to the salads. The easiest way to do that is mix some rep-cal pellets into them. Another way is to use the t-rex bearded dragon VMF. It is a dust for veggies that is a complete food. Using this product you would not need any other supps. Also, the insects don't need to be crix, they can be superworms, mealworms, silkworms...etc.
good luck

My research agrees w/ azteclizards - if the diet is balanced in protein and the vegies are good quality it is okay.

Also thought I might add another bug to list - Fluffy just loves roaches (I am raising discoids for her and several of the other insectivorous critters) - when she is out and about she will go over to the roach tank and try to eat them through the glass.

basis for a growing beardie....pellets or t-rex vmf would be fine or adding bugs daily to his diet.
