bnreptiles Jun 10, 2003 09:21 PM

Hi there anyone who might have some insight on this please do so. I have had 3 babie dies on me him out any reason that I know. They are all about 1 week old and none ate any crickets. I had them in rubbermaid rack system with enough heat and fresh water. I put liquid calcium in there water in hopes off a get me by. They also did this weird open your mouth gasp for air thing. Some were calm some were snappy. I also noticed that one of them mopped out this greenish looking stuff. They just look so weak. I have found two out of what i think are three just flat on there tummies dead. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanx for your time Brad

What were the temps in the rubbermaid container? Did you hatch these yourself? what kind of substrate were they on. How long after hatching did you try feeding them crickets? Were you misting their cage?

Well, you have to look at the point that that is very strange. Lets look at the situation. Most babies don't eat untill a week old or so. Nix the liquid calcium I don't know about it too much but it could be a big factor right there. Once they start eating dust there food lightly. AIR, is there enouph air holes in the container. They don't require much air in the egg but when out it is easy to suffocate them. Moisture, I like keeping them slightly damp but not too wet for the first week or so just to make sure there lungs are ok with dry air. Heat, babies should be kept with a heat gradient just like adults if kept in rubbermaids where they can't get warm enough or can't cool down that will get them also probally just not that quick. Either it is a serious problem with them as far as a disease or deformity or one of these things. Don't rule out something chemicle either did you disinfect or use something around them?
