Help With New Savannah

keithnva Mar 07, 2004 12:01 PM

I just got a savannah that's about two years old and a foot and a half long. I was told that he was never handled, and his temperment is a little less than nice. I was wondering if anyone had any tips as to how to get aquainted with my new pal? Any advice would be appreciated.

take your time thats the most important thing to remember dont pull him away from his or hers hiding spot ,,,let it become used to you rather than you to him get a little closer each time that you get in its cage ..ive had a few give to me that was about the size of yours and at first they did not like me at all ,but now they dont mind me picking them up or giving them a rub on the head...feel free to ask me anything i hope i helped you out..

good luck with your new critter

Dude, I was given my first savannah while it was on it's deathbed, by the looks of him or her(who knows)badly mistreated. I gave Smaug time to get used to me, for the first weeks the only time I opened his cage was to feed and change the water. He started getting used to seeing me and after about 6 months i can reach in and pick him up with little or no trouble.as for his size I'm not positive but, i think if yours is 2 years old he should be bigger than 1 1/2 feet. Smaug is still working on getting to his full health. Do what Feedermouse says about not taking him out of his hiding place.
