New Breeding Project of Geckoes....

LizardLuva Mar 07, 2004 12:08 PM

OK my story-

I used to breed Very good quality anoles for a local pet store who sold them very healthy and well. I have always loved lizards and right now have a very very old rat in a 10 gallon whoo will pass away soon. I also have an empty 5 gallon, and maybe soon another ten gallon, and eventually (a big might) 20 gallon.

I was reading my most recent issue of Reptiles Magazines with the Foriegn Banded Geckoes, and thought of breeding a smaller gecko, as more of a show gecko. I dont mind on handling, although if i could hold them at some points in time, that would be good, =D, also if it could be housed in a mininum 10 Gallon, that would be great. OK cost is the major thing, im only a teenager, so money can be a problem, but emerg. vet visits will be covered. So i was thinking of a pair around at most 50$. Also something that i could possibly buy from an expo and sell reliably.

What i do not want:
Leopards, im not attracted to them
North American Banded
Cresteds
AFT
thats about it
Thanks

Nic

How about Paroedura pictus? You could keep one in a 10 gal, although I would recommend a 20 gal for a pair. You should be able to get a pair for $50. They're relatively easy to care for, as well.

pictus are a great choice but you really onlly need a 10 gallon for a pair.if you wnat a arboreal gecko that can fit in a ten gallon a bibrons gekco would be great.they breed readily in desert cages and a pair can be kept in a 10 gallon.if you wnat info on them get a hold of emerald exotics as he breeds them.also if you want something more expensive you might try viper geckos.

Well I have a crocodile gecko(I will breed one day). It's hard to tell what sex they are,so you just have to try and see if they fight when there in the cage together. You can get these guys in Canada for about 20$ so in the US they will be cheaper...............so i would recommend these guys IF you had a cage bigger than a 10g
