Hello,
This will be my first year breeding. I was wondering if I should get an incubator for my Tokay eggs or build my own? I'm afraid to leave the eggs in the cage because I'm afaid the crickets will destroy them.

You dont need a incubator really. The eggs will be glued to something and hard to remove, Ingo gave instructions on doing this not to long ago or hopefully the eggs will be laid on something you can remove thats small enough to place in a incubator. I did this once and the hatchlings escaped out of the incubator when I lifted the lid, what fun. I just taped a deli dish over the eggs where laid with small pin holes in it. I had the same concerns at first but have found you dont need to worry bout it.Heres a pic of how I did it, there even a Tokay just hatching if you look closely.

Hi Dakman,
Thank you for responding to my post. Sorry it took me so long to answer you. The deli cup is a good idea and not alot of fuss. Now my problem is theyto hide in little crevasses above the glass door groves; I have a small Visions cage.Do you they would lay their eggs there where I can't see them? I guess just all of a sudden I would se babies! What does the babies eat?
Its possible they could lay them there. Mine have never layed their eggs where they hang out and hide. They usually lay them somewhere under the heat source. Not high up close to it but prob where they sense the temp is not to hot or cold. They used to lay them on that cactus branch seen in the pic but since i added a large flat rock, sitting on bottom below heat leaning up against the back of the tank, it has become their fav spot for laying. It created a nice hide for them too. babies are very small when they hatch, mine usually take about 100 days and can take up to 200. They come out of the shell shedding and will begin eating right away. You will want to feed them very small crickets. I'd put a dish of calcium in the tank for the female to lick as desired, she'll need it producing eggs. They store calcium in sacs on each side of the back of their head, it will appear like two lumps bulging at the beginning of their neck. That will be a good sign she should produce good eggs.

Are 3/4 in. crickets too big for the babies? I have had bad luck so far with raising crickets. I gave them an "all-in-one" food and they didn't eat it.Also I'm finding out that Tokays aren't that bad as far as biting is concerned.
3/4" crix will be way to large for hatchlings. These guys are only about 3" long and that icludes a very long tail. You will need pinheads. As they get bigger the Tokays will have no prob handling larger food items than recommended for most geckos but not at this young age. I buy my crix by the 1000 but I feed alot of mouths. If you have just a couple or few I'd just buy a dozen a couple times a week, gutload them overnight and feed the next day. That worked for me at first but got way expensive buying 8 dozen 3 times a week plus mealies. Unless that is you dont live anywhere near someplace to purchase them regularly. they usually run $1.00-1.50 a doz.
