Have any of you who produced and sold possible hets ever worry about the people you sold them to mislabel them and resell them with you being mentioned as the breeder. The reason I ask is that I have produced a few poss. het for sunglow litters in the past few years and have seen them being resold as 100% DH sunglow. I only have produced to date one litter of 100% het for sunglows which I held back all the offspring but two females who I put towards a pair of motleys I picked up. It just concerns me that a person would buy an animal from me and then calls it what is not, then selling it, and attach my name to it as the breeder. It will be sad day to receive an e mail from some poor guy who buys it and then tells me that he/she has not produced sunglows. I do keep pics of all offspring that I produce for just this reason. I have thought about using AVID chips to chip all the 100% hets I produce. What do all you guys think about this? It could happen and from what I see it is happening.

Thanks,
James W. Arnold

since so many of us are getting into these morphs and pure bred types, chipping would be a great way of adding some honesty to the profession. I am surprised that breeder registries aren't more popular... especially with BCC. Is there a breeder registry for boas? I seem to remember that somebody was doing this.. did it crash and burn?

I really like the sound of micro-chipping our animals, but the problem has been locating someone in the area that would be able to do it for Steve and I, I feel that its the only way to mark my animals and make sure they don't get sold as something that they are not... I would worry about this because your being sited as the producer of these animals, and therefore if there is a bad dealing then the people who buy the misrepresented animals will have your name at the top of the list because the person who is claiming they are 100% hets can simpily say that YOU sold them to him as 100% hets and then you look good and he looks like the middle man who got the Sh*t end of the stick with the new buyer, either way i would keep really good records of the animals your producing and keep the documentation for at least 3 years if not longer so that if this ever happens you could pull out that animals file and say well this is a copy of the invoice i send so and so and it clearly states 66% hets, or Possible hets however you want to do it and also then you could tell this person what the parents are and so on... it would be a good cover either way... but good luck with that

really good tools. I'v been using them for several years on wild snakes, they work great and don't bother the snakes at all. If neonates were chipped by the breeder there would be no confusion or misrepresentation by middlemen, the breeder could easily bring up the number and check out its history for you. Of course young boas have very thin skin and tiny scales plus they have a very prehensile tail which may be affected by the chips (They are implanted on the last 2/3's of the snake). I'v never had to worry about this problem on my snakes, they are adults and have much tougher skin.

You can get AVID chips and supplies from www.tongs.com and chip them yourselves. They want you to call them for details, but I've had no luck getting them to call me back, which ticks me off. I'm expecting a litter of albino boas fairly soon and was going to chip them. Maybe I'll try and call them again today.
