Beardie overheated...please help

georgio Mar 07, 2004 03:13 PM

Popeye was outside today and it is HOT in southern california. The sheet I put up on top of his outdoor cage for shade blew off so he did not have shade. I went to a coffee shop to study and came back to find him way overheated. His beard is constantly black. He's breathing and I gave him some cool water and a cool water bath to lower his temperature and he drank a bunch. Now he just sits here with his eyes clothes and his beard is still totally black. What else should I do? Any help would be much appreciated.

Make sure you keep him hydrated, offer him water every hour and he will rest for a while because he's tired. Expect this too keep him upset for about 1 week so he may not return to normal for a while. There probobly wasn't any permanent damage if he is alive. But make sure you keep and eye on him and give him water. But by no means should you keep him cold. This could cause more problems.

I agree, keep him hyrdrated and warm not cool....give him time and quiet to get over the stress of it....
