question about feeding

hjk Mar 07, 2004 03:14 PM

i have an adult mali uro. He likes his greens and crix. I was wondering how many crix I can give him and how often. I know uros mainly eat plant matter, so I dont want to be giving him too many crix or something. Thanks.

hm that is hard to tell...everyone different source of that info...
and noone really knows how many is good for them.so if i tell you something there will definately be some arguments on that.
i've read, that it is enough to feed them once in a week but how many crix depends on their size!
mine is ca. 4in long and i give him 1-2 crix every other week!
that is my opinion, wait for some more!

hello,
through reasearching and talking with the great people on this forum....i have decided that uros only attain insects as a stimulant. i really don't think that insects play an imortant role in a uromastyxs diet. mine get a wax worm a week at most. most of the time he gets a wax worm or super (small) once every other week to once every third week.

the only reason i offer him these is for the stimulation....uros i have found get very bored with their cages very fast if they don't get outside stimulation. eg-logs for climbing, occasional insects, dry pellets, fresh flowers, dry lentils, different dry beans, different things that they don't usually get.

mine goes crazy over this stuff and i have found that these items go along ways in habd taming your uro

a very helpful tip though is to not hold the food with your finger tips.....he will eventually decide your fingers look tasty. hold it in your palm.

i would say keep insect feeding to a minimum...only as treats, like 1 everyother week...

hope this helps
