HELP!!!!! need instant advice on a sickly looking dragon HELP!!!!

pogo_the_dragon Mar 07, 2004 04:09 PM

Someone I know at my apartments got ahold of me and asked if I could take his dragon off his hands..I told him I'd look at it and was astonished to see this 14" dragon who looked like it hadn't eaten in a month..It's soooooooo thin.....Then after a closer look he can't use his legs in the back...they sit back beside his body and his front legs feel limp too! Feels like there's no muscle tone there...When he moves he looks like a fish out of water thrashing around...He said the vet told him months ago he had metallic bone disease but that was months ago! Is there any hope for this dragon...I would take on the challenge if it's reversible and can get him to walk again or is he doomed??? I need any and all help here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why not take him on anyway even if you can't help that much atleast you could make his maybe last months or weeks pleasant for him.I'm sure you can help but you will have to take him to the vet a couple times get calcium shots, dust everything and fatten him up...But I'm sure you can fix him up.

He could get better....I have take in a couple that couldn't lift their bodies and made a good recovery, though they will never be like they were before the MBF, so there's always hope that he could have a nice life and regain his strength.

Get him a good UVB source (mercury vapor bulb and/or lots of natural sunshine) a calcium supplement with D3 and or prescription liquid calcium from a vet. I have seen iguanas in REALLY bad shape turn around after being put in the right environment so I would say there is hope. He may have some permanent disfiguring but he could lead a long happy life.
