Please I have a question...

mngrivera Mar 07, 2004 04:37 PM

I have a almost 6 month male beardie 13.5 inches and a female almost 4 month beardie at 9.5 inches. I don't think that my female is happy in her cage anymore. It is a 20 gallon. She is always grey when she is in there until we take her out. I have decided to build her a new larger cage. My qustion is this- until her cage is built could I house the male and female together safely? He is in a 48 x 18 with pleanty of room. They both have a clean bill of health. They have no agression towards eachother at all. Would he try to breed with her- I think he's too young for that though and she is too. It would be only for a week or so- I defenitely don't want to go over 2 weeks. Can you please leave your thoughts?

The male is probably not even sexually mature so for temporary home it'd most likely be ok.But just keep an eye on them just in case he tries to breed.

I would keep her in her 20 gallon until you can get the new one. If it will only be a week or two it shouldn't make much difference to her. I would hate to have anything happen to her. I know you went through a hard time when you lost your other little one.

BTW, Have you ruled out all other causes that could make her unhappy?

Well her habitate is the same as she has gotten here when she was 1 month old. Her tempts run 110-115 on the basking side and in the 80's in the cool side. The only other difference is that Goldberg- the male is in the room. But she warms up and is so pretty when she's out of her cage. Even in his sight they just wave at each other. I really think that she just feels confined. But I guess I'm looking at it in a human level.

She may well be (feeling confined that is) and I know you are planning on getting her a new enclosure soon, but I still wouldn't put her in with Goldberg.

No!

Keep them as they are until her new cage is ready. Your cute lil male HAS nipped before and I would hate for him to get a piece of her tail or a toe, etc.
