feeding hatchlings

I just got my new Savanah earlier today. He's only about 5 inches or so. I'm feeding him crickets and meal worms for now, but I was just wondering whether I should just toss them in his cage, or feed him in a tub so that I can track how much he's eating. He's in a 20 gallon now with cypress mulch so I can't really track how many cricket's he's eating. Any ideas?

i raised some of mine by just tossing the crickets in and let him get them when he wants and for the meal worms just put them in a dish that is tall enough to where they cant get out which is not very much..and if you decide to feed him in a seperate cage than that would be okay to

Give it mice (pinkies, fuzzies, hoppers, whichever) every day or every other day, but they will eat tons of crickets. I like using lobster roaches (I breed them for feeders for my ackie and my beardies), they are cheap and easy to maintain, and reproduce like mad, but use bug stop because they can climb good and are fast. Some of my 6 inch boscs years ago could eat 50 crickets at a time. Feed daily offer a 130 degree basking spot (surface temp), with a gradient that drops to room temps almost on the other end.
