Anyway, what do you all use as a 'substrate' for your crickets, if at all? (i.e. - no sand/towels/soil at bottom of cricket tank.)

Anyway, what do you all use as a 'substrate' for your crickets, if at all? (i.e. - no sand/towels/soil at bottom of cricket tank.)
U don't need any, I use a large sterilite container and put egg cartons in it. Cut up the egg cartons and punch holes in them so the crickets can get around. Take another small container like a tupperware and fill it with dirt. Maybe 2 inches deep and have a little extra room at the top. My cricket colony has dirt everywhere from them kicking it out. So now all the crickets will go to whichever sie of the cage has the most heat and when the female have eggs they have a place to lay them. Heat is very important because they are more active and will mate.
Sorry if I just explained way to much, just felt like talking cuz I'm in a good mood.

and don't forget the GIANT STENCH. GAWD crickets stink, there's very few other things in this world that smell worse than an old crix colony...
that's why mine mainly eat mealies now
