I have 1.1 2002 Okeetees. Should I wait a year?

IndyShark Mar 07, 2004 07:37 PM

I have two healthy 2002 okeetees that seem VERY interested in each other. I was planning to wait until next year, but does anyone have any advice regarding putting 02's together for breeding?

I have an 02 female that at last measurment before she shed was 37 inches long and her girth was 3 inches around. I don't have a scale so I can't tell weight. I imagine since she has shed since that she has grew some more. I want to breed her this year, but have no other adults to compare her too. What do you think?

Most people suggest waiting until the females are 250-300 grams before breeding. Corn snakes can definatly breed younger though. You can put the female at risk for egg binding if she is too young. From what I've seen young females don't usually have as large clutches as adults. If you have access to a scale I would recommend weighing them just to be sure, looks can be deceiving. While my snakes are probably smaller than some who post here I feel they are too small breed. I weighed my two biggest 02s sunday and they weighed in at male 191 gr and female 180gr. I will be waiting until next season before I consider breeding them. Just my opinion.

Thanks. That's good advice. I guess the male will have to wait....
