What to look for in rescue?

girlystar Mar 07, 2004 09:30 PM

Well our friend called us today and asked us if we still have weird animals. He then offered us a full-grown iguana with cage. Apparently he can no longer afford to feed it and is looking to sell it for 50 dollars cage and all. We want to take it in if we can help it have a good life. The cage its in is currently 3x3 feet and 5 feet tall. Is this going to be a big enough for a full-grown iguana or would we need to get a bigger one. Also are there certain things we should look for when we see him. Apparently he has some scars from a calcium deficiency that he has gotten over. He was sold to the currently owner by a person that had it left over from a relationship and he reminded him of his ex. I want, if it is healthy and friendly to have a good home here.

If it is full grown the cage is way too small for it. A full grown iguanas cage should be 1 1/2 times the size of their body long. And as tall as you can possibly make it and as deep as you can make it. The more room they have the happier they are. I think you should get "iguanas for dummies" by melissa kalpan as soon as possible and read it. Iguanas require alot of care. UVB is necessary as are correct temps and humidity.

If the iguana isnt as friendly as you wish you should work with it. They are very loving creatures when cared for and tamed properly. I couldnt function without one of mine on my shoulders or on my desk.

Good Luck
