To any Canadians out there.....HELP LOL

RedQuake Mar 07, 2004 09:52 PM

Ok got a problem. I was told by a breeder that shipping live animals door to door in Canada was prohibited. Can anyone confirm this as i've had someone reply to me unsure that this is true. I was told that shipping from airport to airport was ok, say if someone in Toronto wanted a gecko from BC but that you had to pick it up at the airport so this didn't help me out as i live only a few hours away from the breeder.

Thankyou for any and all help

Hi Red.

I don't know of any shippers / courriers / carriers that will ship live animals door to door. Every shipment I've ever received or sent has been from airport to airport. However, I have had feeder insects delivered directly to my door. Insects and animals are probably considered quite different to shippers.

I think for herps its gotta be airport to airport.

Hey thanks, I've had mealworms shipped to me, actually to the local post office, they refuse to come to the house even though i was told at the post office that since its a priority package and was arranged to come to the house it should have.....I was so mad cause on the box there labels upon labels that stated *This way up* and *fragile*. When i got to the post office, they had it on its side and the woman handled it rough. WHen i got it home i found my shipment all over instead of inside the containers...they had come open. So all in all, with that sort of treatment for insects, i wouldn't trust a gecko in the mail!
I dont' mind driving to pick up my geckos, i did so yesterday Oh and by the way, the new girls are settling in well. One couldn't stop eating tonight, while the other three still won't come out while the lights are on. I really enjoyed seeing the breeders setups, her stock and getting that one on one treatment. Prefer that to shipping any day. Thanks for the info. I just wanted to confirm

Hey Red, I'm glad to hear your new leo's are setteling in. I can't confirm your question, but my boyfriend was a posty for Canada post. He said that quite often they would deliver packages that chirped or moved to homes. He didn't mention anything about it being prohibited or not. Though I would guess it is allowed if it happens.

Yah there right. It's illegal to ship livestock door to door in Canada, the best you can do is your local international airport. The first time I heard it I was really really angry, it makes picking animals up a huge hassel if your not near the breeder.
