Really funny but HUGE video

georgio Mar 08, 2004 01:34 AM

It was quite warm out today and I spent some time outside with my animals. My girlfriend's dog Baxter and Nova were laying on the lawn and Nova started eating some grass. Baxter, always the imitator decided he would eat some grass as well. It was really quite comical. Hope you guys like it.

Peter, I am so glad that you decided to keep Nova! She looks wonderful in the video. Kudos to you for saving one of the most widely abused animals in the pet trade!!
Steph's new camera is on it's way. When it arrives I hope to get new photos or the Egyptians. I will send some your way.
Best Regards

Thanks Jane =) Yeah, I still have her. She may have eggs again soon seeing as she had them last year at this time. Although last year they looked fertile to me...so maybe she won't (do they have eggs every year no matter what?)

She's doing really well...too well. She's getting HUGE. I she's gone from 4 - 8 or 9 pounds since I've had her (I can only weigh her on the bathroom scale so it's not very accurate). She seems like she's always shedding one part or another (is this normal? I wasn't sure.)

Theoretically I'm still looking around for another home for her. Her cage is only a 3 foot square and 4 feet high so 36 cubic feet and I know she deserves better but it is all I have space for. She does really well outside so when it is nice out I study outdoors and let her and Boulder run around and eat my plants--we don't really have a lawn it's just random plants including nasturtiums, dandelions, miners lettuce grass and sourgrass (wood sorrel). I don't let them eat too much sourgrass however because it has oxalic acid in it that's not good for them but I can't keep Boulder from getting all the yellow flowers. Surprisingly everyone--Boulder, Nova, my girlfriend's dog and my brothers cat--all get along quite well.

Glad to hear the egyptian uro's are doing well!

Heh, that's exactly what he was doing. I have another video (maybe I'll change them later) where he stops eating, moves next to Nova and starts eating the grass she was eating. "Hey...this isn't very good, it must be better over there, cause she sure is enjoying it". Baxter is the best...he's only 8 months but he's perfect with other animals and trained very well (my girlfriend is a dog trainer...guess that helps =)).

LOL I made the same spelling error about ohh 4 months ago on this forum. Someone busted me on my spelling error... I actually looked it up on google before I typed it just to make sure my spelling of the word was right. After seeing numerous entries with it spelled s-hi-t tzu I thought I had the right spelling LOL. WRONG!!! hehe Shih-Tzu

Wow Peter your Iguana is looking so good. She is getting so big too.. I can't wait till it warms up over here in Jersey.. We actually had snow today. Two days in the high 50's low 60's then snow This year I'm building a nice outdoor enclosure for the Iguana at my mothers place for the summer. She has one of those cat doors for the Iguana, and I'm just going to build it right up on the deck from the door so she can go in and out as she pleases when the sun is shinning. The iguana has really come a long way and is actually starting to take to being handled much better then she use too, but bring her in the same room with the dog and forget about it she'd flip. Your Iggy seems like a real sweetheart your lucky to have one so nice. Some can get really moody especially around breeding season.

Yeah, I have been so lucky with my animals; I'm very greatful. I'd like to think I had some part in how they turned out but I think it's mostly been luck =). Nova is definitely a sweety. She never shows aggressive behavior unless the dog runs up to her, then she flattens out and looks all huge. But 10 seconds later she'll be eating and walking all over him so I don't think she really cares too much. It's a different experience handling an iguana however. I don't know how people handle aggressive ones because Nova is STRONG and has very sharp claws. Luckily she lets me clip them but even as nice as she is she ends up scratching me just trying to crawl around. I didn't know you had an ig...how old is he/she?

I'm sure you had plenty to do with how they turned out. Beauty is only skin deep, and yours are all healthy as well as beautiful. Yes, my Iguana was a lucky NJ amusement/carnival Iggy who found a good home. When I helped out at the rescue I had two that came home with me at times as fosters. One was my girl friends at the time, and the other a rescue that I adopted, and my mother now keeps cause she has the extra room/yard for the huge cages, and I devoted all my time to the dragons. The Iguana in the picture was kept in a 20 gallon long it's first year of life and fed iceberg and carrots. No lights no supplements. Stunted growth from lack of calcium, and ROOM. It's amazing she made it through. She was aggressive because of this, but with work and love over the last two years she has come a long, long way. She has grown so much, and even eats out of our hands, walks on a harness, and yes I come each weekend to check her over, and she gets handled. I couldn't imagine having a 5-6 ft lizard and not be able to have some control over it if it needed medical attention etc. They are amazingly powerful lizards and if chose could really do major damage with tail, teeth, and claws. Thank God though it's a wonderful iguana that has come such a long way. We just do our best to provide for it so it can live out it's life the best it can. It's such a shame how many are lost at such young ages, or are thrown away cause they got too big. I actually saw them advertised as dwarf iguanas on the boardwalk here in NJ, and got thrown off the boardwalk cause I was showing their customers my 4ft dwarf... Go figure

Basically the same idea. Baxter decides he wants to share grass together but Nova decides she wants her own. I'll have to get one of Baxter, Nova and Boulder next time as they often all hang out in the bunch-of-natural-weeds-I-call-my-backyard as well. This is a big file as well...nothing like mooching off the university bandwidth.
Nova and Baxter again
