Enclosure idea and water proofing question.

benblue Mar 08, 2004 02:34 AM

I’m building some wood cages for my ackies and would like some ideas on water proofing or sealing the wood. I was also thinking maybe just giving them a 28 quart plastic Rubbermaid container filled to the top with dirt and just putting aspen, sand or if any one has any ideas on another no water kind of substrate to put in the main part of the enclosure. I’ve posted a not so great pic of my idea. The Rubbermaid container will be on a shelf in the cage and wood stacks will connect to the shelf so that the ackies will have access to the dirt in the Rubbermaid. This idea will also add extra square footage to the cage as well.

Best Regards

use epoxy resin, if you want it natural looking you can put
sand on it, while its not hard.

hope i could help. =)

I've used a 2 part epoxy resin made by West Systems and it works very well.

I used shower-pan rubber and stapled it to the walls 6 inches up from the floor. Works great, easy to intall, you don't have to wait for it to dry, and no fumes in your house.
