Shedding problem

JacksonsChamKeep Mar 08, 2004 02:42 AM

My iguana has a couple of black marks on his skin. It looks like they will shed off, but I pulled off the skin (which shed off easily) the skin underneath seems raw and was wet around the edges of the spot. Is this just a shedding problem, and is there anything I could do.

Hi there,
Is your iguana a rescue? Is it possible that it could have gotten a thermal burn? It often takes quite a bit of time for a burn to show itself, and when it does, it can appear as darkened skin that peels off to leave raw skin underneath.
Please make sure and keep it clean and bathe in a betadine solution (you can get this from the vet).
A trip to the vet would be a good idea, since you do not want infection to set in, and he/she will be able to diagnose whether it is a thermal burn or something else.
