NH & MD herp shows -- anyone been to these?

twinoats Mar 08, 2004 11:03 AM

I have not attended either the Havre de Grace, MD, or Manchester, NH, herp shows. Has anyone been to either and can give me an idea of chameleon availability? Both are a bit of a drive for me so I don't want to make the trip if chams are scarce. For comparison, I have attended the White Plains, NY, show which I think usually has a moderate amount of different species, and I've been to the Hamburg, PA, which usually does not have many chams at all (therefore my boyfriend gets to drive )

The Havre de Grace show is failrly small w/a limited amount of Chameleons. Typically just Veiled's and Jackson's availible, sometimes Panther's. Probably not worth the drive for you.

Hi Kerry,

I live in NH and went to the NH show last September. It was my first so I have nothing to compare it to. There were some chams: a few jacksons, panthers and veileds. One breeder, Lynde Pinto, had a cage full of small 3 month old veiled that for the most part looked healthy ($40 a piece? can't recall) I think she was from PA. But someone on here had commented on her not being a good breeder - or something.

My guess is probably not worth the drive (from where?). But if you find yourself here drop me an email and maybe I'll meet you there! Would love to be at a show with someone who knows what they are doing! LOL!)

Hi, Kerry. Havre De Grace is a waste of time. As for Hamburg: I've been there when there have been pretty good chams available. The last 2 shows have been pretty light on chams but up until this year it was quite good. Another show you should consider is the Pottstown, PA show. It's not as big as Hamburg but it's several times thye size of Havre De Grace. The next Pottstown Show is on April 3rd. There's also a show in Lititz, PA on March 20th. It's not as good as Pottstown but still better than Havre De Grace. My daughter & the grandkids will be down for a visit that weekend and I'm hoping to take my 4 year old grandson to his first herp show!

I went to the Manchester show last September. Mostly snakes, but there are some chams. I remember seeing veilds, and I bought a $60 male jacksons for my (now ex)bf. The jax was friendly, alive, hearty and healthy last I saw him ('bout a month ago). Of course I don't remember the name of the breeder. There isn't a huge sellection, it isn't a large show. But I had fun and spent some $$ (jax, cornsnake, housing for jax, and plants: over $300). And I'm planning on hitting the April show if I can. I like to stand and drool shamelessly at the NERD table.
