Multiple Pinkies

kiknskreem Mar 08, 2004 11:28 AM

I have a several month old corn who is a somewhat finnicky eater. For him to eat F/T pinkies I must wave them in front of his face and dance them around a bit. He is large enough to be eating two at a time, but I do not know proper protocol for this. My main question is at what point do I offer him the second pink? Any information is welcome.

Best thing to do is offer the second pinky about 10 minutes after he downs the first.

One of mine used to be finnicky. There was a thread about snakes that lack heat pits and how it affects feeding in the general snake forum awhile back. I decided to heat a pinky up real good under a heat lamp to see if this would make any differance(I usually just soak them in warm water), it worked great and she doesn't hesitate a bit anymore.
When I feed multiple items, I always throw them both in at once. After working down the first one they will move onto the next.

I would try live pinkies. They move on their own and they are warm. But alot of people dont like feeding live mice.

live pinkies are fine, as they are too young to cause any damage to the snake.

At 7 months old he could be big enough to go to fuzzies. I have 2 yearling corns and a 8 months old milk that are all eating fuzzies. About 2 each. I place them in a seperate container with their meals and they eat at their own pace. If they don't eat right away I just leave them in the container for a while and they will usually eat them all. Sometimes I have to wiggle the F/T meal too but I would rather do that then toss in a live prey item. But that's just me. As long as mine eat F/T they will get F/T.

Its like chips you just can't stop at one. make sure they are both very warm if f/t get it to take the one and drop the other next to it's body mine try squeeze both at the same time. good luck
