Ig&SnakeOwner Jun 10, 2003 11:35 PM

I have some for mine but they stay in the shelter all the time so do they even need one? THanks

I think a good rule of thumb is:

Snakes that are diurnal or crepuscular in nature may want to bask at times.

Snakes that are nocturnal in nature and/or fossorial (burrowing) snakes don't bask.

For those that don't bask, direct light sources are unecessary.

Even for those that do bask, the need for UVB is questionable.

I believe the only snakes that really might(as oldherper said, it is questionable) benifit from it are the small diurnal insect eaters, such as the green snakes. In pretty much all snakes, they can never have one bit of supplemental UV and be perfectly healthy. Andy
