Someone has to have some idea. We are going tomorow, I have no idea if it's going to cost $50 or $500.

Sorry i dunno but good luck, I've been following your posts. Hope the little guy is ok.
Thanks for your support
unfortunately I'm not to fond of the vet, but he is the only one in town who sees herps. For example I just wanted to ask him some questions last Wednessday being very concerned about Rex regugitating. The secretary said she'd get him to call as soon as possible... he never called. So I called again on Friday and made an appointment, stating specifically that I wanted to speak to him before the appointment to see if it was worth coming in over, he never called. So today I stressed Rex out, making him go all the way to the vet, only to have him tell us we have to come back again tomorow because he didn't have time to do an x-ray today. AAAAHHHHH I wanted to punch him. Poor Rex got poked and proded all over again for no reason. I wanted to tell the vet to stop because he did the exact same thing last week, there was no reason to do it again.
As well I wanted the vet to do a parasite check, so I brought the only poop Rex has had, of some substance, in the last two months. The vet said no, we should check for impaction first. How long would it take to test for parasites??? I had the sample with me. Maybe the last sample we can get, and he said NO
There are other issues as well but I won't get into them. So sorry had to vent... AGAIN
I just wanted to know the price to make sure what this pain in the ass vet charges me is resonable. Thanks again, and I apologize for the terrible grammar I'm so tired I can't think straight.
Lisa
Oh dear girl i'm soo sorry.
Hows Rex doing anyways? Eating anything? Is that his main problem he's not eating? How long have you had him?
Sounds like your vet is a quack but unfortunately you've got no other alternatives...
Maybe one of the knowledgable ppl on this forum will be able to help. Ask specifically for ppl maybe. I know the GoldenGeckos person seems really nice.
Good luck, keep us posted, i'm sure other ppl are interested and worried about your Rex too

Rex is getting noticably worse and worse every day. His tail just in the last week seems to be shinking and shriveling. He cringes at the sight of food (crikets and mealies), and gags if and gets in his mouth (babyfood or liquid calcium). Is becoming more and more unbalanced and shaky in his walk. I'm noticing the droopy jaw and sunken eyes a bit now. But everytime I walk past he looks up at me with those big sad eyes and I want to cry, I can tell he's in pain
I'm thinking tomorow might be bad. Either the vet will say there is nothing we can do or tell me we can do an operation which I can't afford (but will do anyways). I'm so nervous, I'll know whats up tomorow afternoon, hopefully it will be sorted then.
Everyone on here has allready been such a help, I just think everything I've found out I found out a bit to late. If I ever get another gecko I think it would live to be 100yrs.
with all of the knowledge I have aquired. Thanks again,
Lisa
hey you live some you learn some. Rex loves you no worries. Do you have pics of him in his current state?
Let us know if they find out what's wrong with him.
Keep trying with the baby food, he may gag but at least he has food. And make sure your heaters are working i had that happen to me once.
You're doing an excellent job. Don't give up.
good luck
I don't but I'll take some pic's as soon as he calms down from our last vet trip. He really doesn't look too bad, but if you saw him moving you'd know. It's not impaction
but his bones are really frail. I saw his x-ray, it was so neat, I should have asked for it to show everyone. The vet thinks it's just the MBD, and the liquid calcium is all we can do right now. Hopefully he gets better, maybe all these bad things are due to the sudden increase in calcium. It could just be a bad reaction that he needs to get over. You know like how sometimes medicine makes you more sick before it makes you better. This is what I'm hoping
. Thanks again for your support,
Lisa
$80's not too bad. So they're pretty sure its MBD? From what i read its pretty curable. And you're right about the behaviours. I mean if you're a little gecko and you're wisked from your home getting poked and proded and needles in you all the time you'd be damn stressed too. Give him time, you're doing fine. Plus I ALWAYS over worry, anything and everything that mine do is like exaggerated. Must be a girl thing
good luck

I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed... permanently, I think Rex is improving (knock on wood)
. He's moving around more, it seems like his balance is back, and for the first time ever I acctually got all of his medicine in his mouth at the same time. I hope he starts to eat live food again soon, that would just put us right back in the game. The thing I am starting to worry about know are his eyes. I think the UV light I had to put in there is bothering them, he rarely opens them (even in the dark).
The MBD is pretty bad though, it's going to be a long road to recovery. I saw his bones, and where his wrists/ankels are it looks like there isn't any. I have to be extremly carful handleing him. I'm so happy, thanks again for your support,
Lisa
