Banana Boas?

vulcan Mar 08, 2004 05:18 PM

Does anyone know if anyone is working with or breeding Ungaliophis continentalis, or Ungaliophis panamensis? What are their true common names? I've seen them called Banana boas and Bromeliad boas, but are these their true common names? Are they on the pet trade? If so, how hard is it to care for them? How much are they going for?
Thanks.

Check out PM Herps. They're listed on the breeder's page of kingsnake.

Are they new to the pet trade? How hard are they to care for? What is their temperment? Will they let you hold them? etc.
Thanks.

Hi,
these are small secretive boas. they don't bite but they also don't like to be handled to much. i only see mine at night when all the lights go out. they should be set up in a natural vivarium with arboreal hides. these are really interesting little giants that average about 16" to 20" or so in size. their feeding habits can vary from live/thawed mice to live/thawed anoles. usually ,if they eat lizards it's very difficult to switch them over to mice. in my opinion well worth the effort to own. the panamensis are pretty much non existant in the hobby and the continentalis are very hard to acquire now but, if you search hard enough you might be able to turn some up. aside from Paul at PM herps no one is producing these that i know of at this time. hopefully i'll have some next year. if i'm lucky.as they're a bit difficult to get them to breed. i hope this info helps.
