hello,

i was just wondering if there is any way to get a shy gecko to become more friendly and let you hold them...i just got a male leo a little over a week and he is very very shy....he panics when i start to pick him up...is there anything i can do to make him feel at ease when i am holding him? thanks,

Try putting a mealie or waxie on the palm of your hand and most likely he will go after it then just put your hand at the top of the cage.

The best way i have found to get your leo used to you, feed them meal worms. Everyday at the same time, put new worms in your leos dish. Eventually they will get on a schedule and come to expect you there. Eventually start trying to put a worms in front of your leo with your hand. Eventually your leo will realize you're there to give them food, not make them food. Then I would start putting my hand palm down in the tank, they seem to prefer the backs of hands, and let your leo climb on it and explore and get used to it. Don't pck it up right away, wait a few days for it to get used to your hand on the bottom of the tank. Eventually you'll be able to put your hand in and have your leo climb right on. It took me about 6 months to get my leo Jak used to me, but now she pretty much begs to come out every night. Stands on top of her rock and waits for my hand, it's very cool. Good luck, just don't force anything.
