My new beardie that I got 10 days ago is always hiding under his rock.Is this normal for babys I think that he is about 3 months old.He eats alot of crickets but he doesnt eat much of his greens. The temps are 110 basking and the cool end between 80-85.

When I first got my beardie he was 3 months old and he was always basking.About the greens try getting him mustard or dandelion greens. My beardie never ate greens then I bought them and he loves them now.

steve,

i have found that bearded babies won't really eat a lot of greens. i think i read that they require more protien when they are younger, therefore eating more crickets as babies, and less when they are older leading to the munching of more greens. definitely try to serve him a variety of things. i like to get the "mesclun mix" at the salad bar in the grocery store so that i can choose the quantity i get and it's a bunch of different leaves and i won't use like half of it before it goes bad in my fridge. then i supplement it with other stuff to keep them interested...a favorite of my rankin's dragon is thawed frozen peas...just for a little flavor diversity. i also mix some pellet food into the bunch and they seem to eat it as long as it's mixed in.

i wouldn't be worried about him hiding, he does need to get used to his new home and it might take a while...

hope this helps and good luck with your baby dragon (hope he isn't the devil like mine.)

Small beardies are sometimes stressed in big enclosure's. One my beardies was in a big enclosure when it was smaller and was stressed pretty bad. Once I moved him into a smaller enclosure he felt more secure, started eating more, etc.

How big long is your beardie? I'm not real good with the first hand knowledge of growth rate but is he smaller than about 10" snout to tail?

Another thing you can do if you don't want to move him into a different enclosure is partition the current enclosure off with some plants or other objects so it doesn't seem like he's in such a wide open space.

It's kinda like when you were a kid and when you were tucked in you felt safe and comfy.

Hope this helps!!

Yeah he is about 10 inches long.Im going to put him back in a 20 gal long.I had him in there before but I had a empty cage from getting rid of my snakes so I figured Id put him in there cause it is easier to heat. Thanks for the advice I will let you know how he is doing. Steve
