Baby Basilisk???

spydergirl Mar 08, 2004 10:57 PM

Hi everyone. I work in a petstore, and the other day before we opened,i found a beef jerkey container left in my reptile room. i opened it expecting some treats and there was a little brown lizard sitting on some leaves in there. it is about 1 and a half inches and is brown. at first i thought this was a baby anole, but this sucker has some huge feet! and it cannot climb glass surfaces, etc. so the Anole assumption was out. my question for you guys is how big are basilisks when they hatch? this is an arboreal lizard, with a sort of stubby face, all brown body with some black stripes on him, and these disproportionate looking back feet. its toes are extra long. i will take a camera into work tomorrow to get a picture for you all! for right now i have it setup in a 5 gallon hex, with a few branches, paper towel substrate,a small shallow water bowl and some plants with a uva-uvb light and a few pinhead crickets. what do yous think?

One and a hlaf inches total? Or without the tail? Bassies are born bigger than that if that is his total length, so I'm not sure what he is. There are hundreds of things that he could be, so post some pics and I'm sure someone will be able to ID him.

If it is a basilisk it is either a Southern or Northern Brown Basilisk.
