Several weeks ago I posted a message asking for assistance with breeding giant Mad. Day Geckos. This group was very helpful, and our first one hatched about two weeks ago. These animals are obviously very tough, as I will explain.
I had the egg in a pretty cool room, but up high, so it would be warmer, but probably still to cool. So after 65 days or so, I thought it probably was not going to hatch, so I broke open the top gently, and to my surprise saw a very alive eye blinking and looking back at me@!! So I covered him/her with some moist paper towels and put it back up on the shelf.
Well, nothing happened for another 7 or 8 days, so I got it down again, and was looking at it. I could not see thru the top opening as it had discolored, so I thought I had killed the little guy/girl, so I gently opened the egg lengthwise, and surprise, surprise I saw movement, so I closed it up again and put it back in his little hole of vermiculite, covered it with the moist towel and 4 days later there was a little healthy day gecko running around.
He/she is now about 2 weeks old and doing great, and we have 6 eggs that should start hatching one of these days.............I think I will just wait on them to hatch in their own sweet time this time@!..so thanks for all the great advise, Brad Lichtenhan....I will post a pic of the little guy one of these days.
