suri regurge (blockage?)

cv Mar 09, 2004 08:50 AM

I have a questions about digestion. My snake is an 03'. I've had it for about 2 months now. Good temps in habitat but it is regurging. When I first fed it, I gave it f/t pinkie, puked second day slimy pinkie. Questioned quality of f/t so I fed it 4 days later w/live pinky. All seemed well cycled 7 days later. Fed 2 days later sm mouse-7 days crapped. Both fed while in tank w/aspen shavings. Have fed in seperate empty container after first couple feedings. After next feeding a hair pellet was found. The next day he crapped and I fed him that day. 6 days after he chucked another hair pellet, soaked in his bowl-I expected him to crap and nothing happened. It's now 5 days later I picked him up to examine him and it seems he has 2 hard lumps in his belly. He looks full. One is about 1/2" up from vent. Second a little further. If wood was ingested how can he pass it. Called vet but they said x-ray wouldn't show wood. And he doesn't do snakes. Does this sound familiar? Can you help? Sorry for long post! CV

First off his stomach is no wear near 1/2" from his vent! Firm masses are often an indicator of cryptosporidia! Unfortuinatly a known cure does not exist for this parasite and if this is the case I would consider euthanasia! As far as wood goes, if it doesnt pas normally you may wich to try a very small amount of vegetable oil as a laxative but if it doesnt pass, you may be wlooking at surgury. It could also be an abscess! Also removable by surgury but it doesnt sound like food because by the time food gets that close to the vent it is normally digested already! hope this helps!
