Try raising the temp in his enclosure and increasing humidity. If that doesn't work, take him to the vet.

You're right to be worried - your snake shouldn't be making any noise. It *could* be an upper respiratory infection, or it could be something even more serious.

Search through this forum and the other snake forums - there are many threads about URIs.

I also recommend getting a book such as What's Wrong With My Snake?. I got mine from Pro Exotics; you can find it on Amazon as well. It's been very helpful, even for minor issues.

normal healthy BP's will exhale more rapidly than normal and make a sound with the increased rate of air movement. This is nothing to be alarmed about. Sometimes they'll get a little 'lint' in a nostril, or a little water when drinking, and they'll voluntarily exhale a bit forcibly to remove the obstruction. In the absence of other indications of a resp infection (ie, lung sounds, such as clicking; gaping; vertical head/neck position; restlessness; mucus stains on glass; anorexia) occasional sounds are nothing to get alarmed about.
Hope this helps.
