Deathly ill Gecko... HELP

Roboticboredom Mar 09, 2004 11:38 AM

Ok ive traken him to the vet now 3 times. First because he was being weird and stayed completly clear of the moist hide box during a shed and got some skin in his eye which turned into this whole eye infection thing. i admit it was partly my error because i had bee super buzy with midterms and was just doing the put new water throw in some food thing with all the pets that week. And didnt notice the eye because he's usually basking with his eyes closed during the day. I only noticed wheni had time to pick him up and hang out like 3 days later.
So i took him to the vet and got the eye cleaned out and some cream for the eye. It got better and after he shed and the oily skin came off i put him back in his reg cage after a second re-check.
He seemed to be getting better and i chalked any laztness to the stress of being in a diff tank and travels to the vet. He's not used to so much activity. But a week goes by and he's not eating OR drinking... i have to hold him by the faucet for him to want to drink. So i go back to the vet where they do a fecal (nothing turns up) and give him a vitamin shot to give him a little boost. Another week goes by again thinking okay give him a while and he'll de-stres and eat..well sure enough he's basking as normal and walking around and looks like he's getting better. Eats 3 wax worms... not alot but its a start.
Then last night i am cheking up on him and notice the wax worms pooped out but they look like they havnt even been digested... and i noticed blood on the bottom floor of his hide box.
I have no idea what is going on. Ive had him in the same tank NO major changes for 5 years. Then last moth everything went wrong!
I'm sooo upset. I keep thinking that i missed something that week of midterms and feel really bad. But this is like.. we've tried everything and NOTHINg is making him better.
I have another vet apt today at 2:45... but i was wondering from peple that breed and have owned these specific lizards if youve had anything like this.
Thanks for any help... :"|

Oh..heres a picture of my gecko...
This was taken 3 days ago... his tail is getting thinner than i'd like... this is before he spit up blood. I have him on play sand but thats really the sandiest part of his cage cause i have flat rocks spread out sorta like a tile floor for him.. he's in a 20 gal long with uva/uvb flor light and a small heat lamp on the opposide end

Sounds like the eye thing is pretty much cleared up, right? The other may be impaction..is your gecko pooping?(besides the waxies)...I don't know how else he could be sick. Maybe if the vet could order some tests to be done on him? Hope this helps..It's the best I can do right now. Good Luck!

Well... i just got back from the vet and they took a sample to do a culture with. In 3 days the culture will be done. Basically the blood is coming from the stool. When i put him back in the carrier after the sample was taken he let out alot of watery poop and blood. I feel so bad for him he looks miserable.
I guess we have to wait and see, but what worries me is he basically hasnt eaten anything since last month. Any ideas on how to get him to eat?
Poor Sigme... he's so stressed and worn out from all this. (This is him when we got back from the vet...)

My leo Rex and I just got back from the vet as well. I have been putting a bit of baby food on his lips and letting him lick it off. I've heard any type of baby food will work. The vet wants me to feed him it through a syringe (bad speller, sorry) to get more in Rex's belly, and not all over his cage. He also gave me a liquid calcium/vitamin D to feed through a syringe as well. If you don't have something like this, mix some of your normal criket dust in the baby food.

We were just talking about this site on another post,

www.drgecko.com

It's has been extremly informative. If you haven't already checked it out it's definately worth a look. Best of luck,
