A question

Crotaphytuskidd Mar 09, 2004 12:24 PM

Hello all.

Its starting to get very warm here (for this time of year)
mid to upper 80's during the day. My two little lizards
have been out during the warmest parts of the day for the past two weeks. My question is this. Is the reason most of your
female Collareds are becoming gravid right now due to them waking earlier in an indoor condition, or is it something else?
My lizards don't really show an interest in mating until April/May, and they live outside in a pen. If your females gravidity is due to an indoor condition, am I doing something wrong? Thanks for always helping me out.

Yours,
Phil

Collareds will normally be induced to breed within 4-6 weeks of awaking from their brumation. It is likely more abrupt, and noticeable that breeding conditions are favorable in a terrarium as opposed to the great outdoors.

Hey!

Thats interesting. 4-6 weeks eh?
I better get crackin' in order to put some weight on the both of 'em. Maybe this year they'll do the mating thing.
Had it happen once with a female who ended up escaping my pen, but my other female should be ready.... we'll see. Thats cool that you called me Dr. Phil. My friends call me that. heh.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

Yours,
Dr. Phil =)
