not to sure about that Bro but one thing I know for a fact is if you get caught with one you'll be in serious Trouble they're ilegal to have here and in texas in General Found that out first hand when I contacted wildlife rescue here in texas it's OK to have a Common Snapper though

Alligator Snapping Turtles can be legal to own if you get them from a captive bred breeding line, but you should be able to prove that you did. Taking them out of the swamp near your house would be illegal however. I've never seen more than 2 in the wild in Houston anyway. I have seen them for sale at reptile expos before. You should try Pets a Plenty in Houston, there are numerous employees at that store that could point you in the right direction.

Actually if you contact wildlife control, houston zoo,or S&S exotics also wildlife rescue They'll tell you in order to have a alligator snapping turtle you have to have a permit I have looked into this thuroughly I don't say things without being certain Of what I'm saying and infact if you have the permit it is my understanding it's totally irrelevant where you aquire the reptile in your possession either way you have to have a permit they aint going to care what records you have from a breeder or otherwise since that breed is protected

Well according to Ryan Nelson who was speaking on Alligator Snapping Turtles last friday at the ETHS meeting. You can legally aquire Alligator Snapping Turtles through captive breeding lines. Personally I am more inclined to believe an expert on this species over you and Parks and Wild Life actually I am more inclined to believe anyoone over parks and wildlife.

First of all, let me say that I am pretty sure the only people that call S&S are very desperate people. I would hesitate to even call it a store. EVERY SINGLE HERP I have bought from there either died a very premature death quite quickly or developed problems shortly after it was bought. They have also lied and sold me animals that are not established. I knew they weren't, but the fact that they openly lied... I would not ask S&S for advice other than "Where are some other, more reputable herp stores."I feel fairly certain that you can own them in Texas. As scott said, go to any of the reptile expos. They sell them there cheaply and to pretty much anyone. If not, I would like if you could dig up some citations for me.
