Black milks... the ideal pet snake

karm Mar 09, 2004 01:00 PM

I was happy to see a recent flurry of posts on gaigeae. I am currently only maintaining a young pair of these. They are truly something special. They have a feeding response as well as or better than any honduran (and that's pretty strong as many of you know). Couple this with the calm demeanor of the adults, the fact that no supplemental heating is required in their maintenance, relatively slow metabolism (even their poop is infrequent and relatively inoffensive), as well as the fact that adults are large beautiful black snakes, and you've got a winner!

To anyone considering to add another snake to their collection or even a first snake, I say consider the black milk... you won't regret it later.

It's hard for me to get it into my brain that they don't require any heating. Not even in the winter to keep them from hibernating (if you don't breed them)?

Sounds like a lovely animal. If only I could convince my husband I need more snakes.

Convincing a husband should be easy

It's convincing wives that is difficult....

I do want to get another snake and read a little bit about black milks. They sound like the perfect pet snake...not needing any heating. Sounds like the one for me!
