No, you don't have to use them. I give them occasionally to my females, only when gravid and after laying to replenish fat and calcium, but that is it. They really do love them but are not good for dragons on a regular basis.

I do give my gravid females pinkies when gravid and after laying too, but I also give my breeding males pinkies once every 2 weeks and I give them to non-breeding females every month. Pinkies are good for dragons, they are much more nutritionally sound thank crickets or anything else. They could be a staple diet if size wasn't an issue.

I usually don't reply to other people's messages here, but.
Pinkies are not nutritionally sound. The calciumhosphorus ratio in pinkies is far lower than what is recomended for most reptiles. Pinkies do not have fully developed bones. Calcium in rodents comes from there bones, therefore pinkies lack calcium. When feeding any wild animal a meat diet, it is important to either feed whole animals(that contain bones), or suplement with additional calcium. If you still are questioning this, Let me know through e-mail, and I will provide you with some data. In addition, crickets are the best readily avaliable feeder that any captive insectivorious reptile can be fed.

not sure why the smiley face showed up, it should say calciumhosphorus. Hopefully it shows up right this time.

Please send me the information. I always like to learn new things that help me care for my dragons. Thanks.

I agree that pinkies shouldn't be a common food giving to bearded dragons. They tend to be fatty and not a complete food item. A few pinkies here and there won't be harmful to an adult dragon but too much could result in an overweight dragon.

The reason the smiley face appeared in the above post is because you used a colon and a small 'p' which is the 'code' representing a smiley face. To show calcium/phospherous forward or back slash instead. Or a space between teh colon and p. Hope this explains things
